FAQs
Yes – on your fitting day, your advisor will take care of installing a child safety device for you, as required by law. If you have chosen standard Roman, Venetian, Wood Venetian or free-hang Pleated blinds, this will be a cleat for the controls to be wrapped around. Or if you have plumped for Roller, Vertical or deluxe Roman blinds, this will be a hook to keep the controls taut. Cordless options such as our PerfectFit, Luxury Roller, Tab Pleated, Day & Night Transition™ and Trilite blinds do not require a child safety device as they are inherently safe by design.
We also offer free child safety devices for blinds which have already been fitted – even if you didn’t buy from Hillarys. To find out more and order your free devices visit www.makeitchildsafe.co.uk.
As all our blinds are made-to-measure we cannot provide you with an accurate quote over the phone. If you book an appointment with one of our advisors they will be able to measure up and provide a quote for you. During the appointment there will be no pressure to buy, and your advisor won’t overstay his welcome either; average appointment times are around 45 minutes but this will vary depending upon the type and number of products you are interested in. If you are looking for blinds for an entire conservatory, your appointment will take longer. If you need one simple Roller blind for a bathroom, it may be much quicker.
We will arrange for an advisor to visit you in your home at a time that is convenient for you. We aim for an advisor to visit you within three days from when you book your appointment but this may vary depending on location and advisor availability.
You can contact us directly on 0207 101 9379 . Alternatively , complete your details on our ” request a quote ” page and we’ll be in touch to arrange a convenient time – click here to request a quote

Vertical blinds
Vertical blind louvres may be vacuumed using the upholstery attachment. For more intensive cleaning, selected fabrics can be cleaned by hand or in the washing machine. For full cleaning instructions, please contact our customer services team.
Venetian blinds
Dust with a dry or damp cloth. Do not apply too much pressure as the slats may bend. Very dirty blinds can be washed with a mild household detergent.
Roller blinds
Dust as required with a clean, dry cloth
Wooden blinds
Only clean with a dry or slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Roman blinds
Vacuum using the upholstery tool. Fabrics may be dry-cleaned, apart from blackout blinds, following the recommendations on the label.
Remove the blind from the headrail, paying attention to how the cords are threaded, and take out the rods and bottom bar. The fabric can now be dry cleaned with care.
Pleated blinds
Clean using a clean, dry duster. Be careful not to damage the pleats by pressing too hard. Use a hairdryer to blow debris off the back of roof blinds and then vacuum.
Curtains
All curtains can be dry-cleaned. Due to the nature of some fabrics, a small amount of shrinkage, up to approximately 5% can be expected. To keep dry cleaning to a minimum, we would recommend they are cleaned regularly with the upholstery attachment of a vacuum cleaner. Hems and side seams should never be pressed as this will distort the curtains.
Shutters
Regularly cleaning will ensure your shutters continue to look great year in, year out. It shouldn’t take too long and we promise it will not be hard work. It is important you follow our advice and use the appropriate method of cleaning to protect your shutters and for the best effect.
Only clean with a dry or slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Awnings
Gently brush off dirt and debris. For more stubborn marks, sponge with a mild detergent and rinse. Dry thoroughly before closing.
We offer a range of Teflon™ coated and PVC blinds in our Roller and Vertical blinds ranges. Our Faux Wood blinds are a great alternative to Wood Venetian blinds and they will not warp in damp conditions.
Yes – We have a wide selection of blackout fabrics in our Roller blinds range including designs suitable for children’s bedrooms. All our Roman blinds are available with a blackout lining, as are our curtains. Pleated blinds with special coating are available to reduce the light coming into your room.
All of our Wood Venetians are made from high quality Basswood. This is perfect for this style of blind because of its strength and flexibility.
All of our curtains are lined and there are three lining choices including standard, thermal and blackout.
Pleated blinds have been designed specifically with conservatories in mind. They can be tailored to fit the different shaped windows so often found in conservatory roofs and they are available in a range of performance fabrics that help to keep the temperature down in the summer months while retaining the heat once it starts to get cooler. For the sides consider more Pleated blinds, including those fitted into a PerfectFit frame that doesn’t require drilling or screwing. The blinds become an integral part of the window, which means the window can be opened while the blind is closed – great for those really warm days.
Blinds can really help get rid of the chill in your conservatory. Not only do they look cosy but they have a practical advantage too. Our range of Pleated blinds includes specialist fabrics that help to retain the heat. You can fit Pleated into your roof and then choose from our full range of blinds for around the sides. Fully-lined Romans look warm and when pulled down, block out the outside world completely.
